News - Spring edition 2019

10.04.2019

We have barely entered the year 2019 and we already are in the middle of April. Sunny days and warmer temperatures are already announcing the arrival of the summer season, that we have all been anticipating for quite some time and preparing for it for months. The sunny weather also attracts more people on the roads especially the motorcyclists, which of course transfers to the rise in the technical assistance cases which we must deal with and solve by our best capabilities. Because of all that we have prepared in this newsletter a few advices for you on how to improve the road safety and how to avoid the unpleasant situations on the road.

The March has brought to our city not only the warmer weather, but also the international academy under the guidance of IAG on which we are particularly proud and will explain it in a greater detail later. For the conclusion of this newsletter we have also prepared for you a few suggestions for how to spend the upcoming Easter holidays and how they are traditionally celebrated here in Slovenia.

We are inviting you all to read on!

1. IAG Roadside Academy 12th – 13th of March 2019 in Maribor

Between 12th and 13th of March there was a special roadside academy taking place here in Maribor under the guidance of IAG, which we have proudly attended. During the two-day lectures and sharing of the practical hands on work experience, we have learned a lot of new skills, that we will gladly implement in our future work to improve the quality of it even further. We are particularly proud, that it was our city that has received the honour to host this academy and its global team of attendees this year.

We would also like to thank to all the academy attendees, that have honoured us by visiting our assistance centre headquarters here in Maribor.

2. The rise in the traffic participants

The sunny days and higher temperatures have attracted on the roads also the drivers whose vehicles have been resting over the winter. We are already seeing a rise of the motorcyclists in the traffic. We must all be aware of their presence and watch out for them, as they must take care and pay attention to us for all to enjoy a carefree and safe driving.

TBS TEAM 24 recommends to all the motorcyclists to take care while driving and to adjusts the speed according to the road conditions to avoid the potential accidents. This is especially important during this season of the year, when the asphalt surfaces are still cold despite the higher air temperatures, which causes a suboptimal tyre traction. There is also an added risk of sliding with the deposits of the scattered sand still being present of the roads from the winter season.

It is also important to always wear a protective helmet which is a standard part of the motorcycle equipment. Be cautious to wear it and strap it properly to assure it will serve its purpose. Make sure to also wear the protective garment with added pads for the extra layer of protection.

TBS TEAM 24 recommends staying visible by always driving with your lights turned on. That will help other participants in the traffic to notice you earlier and keep the road safety up and sufficient.

To increase the road safety even further, it is important not to brake while the wheels are placed over the road signalization markings, to avoid the asphalt surfaces with scattered sand or spilled oil and to not drive to close to the middle split line of the road while leaning into a left turn, that is how you will avoid your head crossing the middle line and colliding into the opposing traffic.

By giving you all these recommendation we wish you safe driving and that the weather conditions will remain nice and pleasant to allow for a long and joyful motorcycle season.

3. Easter holiday season

The Easter is the biggest catholic holiday which is traditionally celebrated all over Slovenia. Most of the people celebrate and spend this holiday with their families at home, while there are others who seize those few days to take a short break from their work. The holiday is traditionally celebrated on the Easter Monday, which also used to be a day of the youth that has attended different balls, parties and venues in their finest gowns playing humorous games with the Easter eggs such as “turčanje”, “valičanje” and cutting of the eggs.

The rich folk tradition of the Easter is linked to many of the old beliefs and celebrations of the spring. It is also the biggest and oldest catholic holiday and for many people with the catholic beliefs, it is the holiday of all holidays. A lot of different and old traditions is linked to this holiday, ranging from the old cults of pre-catholic spring rituals later mixed with the catholic traditions, the cults of sacrifice, the cults of fertility and even the cults of death. Here in Slovenia one of the most notable traditions for this season is also the ceremonial explosions of calcium carbide. Loud bangs of explosion can be heard throughout the holidays, even at night.

The Easter holiday is based off a moon calendar. The spring always starts on the 21st of April and the Easter holiday is always placed for the first Sunday after the first full moon appearance in spring. This year the Easter will be celebrated on the 22nd of April 2019 which falls on Friday, that means people will have 3 days free of work. That is why we are expecting an increase of traffic on the roads, particularly in the direction towards the coastline. We advise patience when travelling.
